Falling in Love Again

They linger on, the kids. Two

bids at eternity become

reminders of broken vows

and the abuses of choice: Not

their fault they got a mum and dad

only too glad to throw in the

towel rather than go

the distance, even if some

of it might be on the ropes.

Now, poor sods, they grope about

in a fog of rejection

and deserve better than to be

told they’re better off. Small surprise

they fantasise of reunion.

But even that’s ignored by all,

except the researchers.
